I bought this book because it seems to be the only one on the topic of food photography around and the reviews were quite good. I learned a lot about composition. I liked how visual the book was, going through the process of choosing photos by sharing thumbnails of the photographs and the thought process behind the selection of the final photo. The photos themselves were good and the history of how food photography has changed over time was enlightening.

Unfortunately, the book comes across somewhat dated because the author no longer has to convince us how great digital photography is and that it is the "way of the future.

I have several cookbooks, but this is by far my favorite. I have never used a cookbook as often as I do this book, and I have consistently had great results. So far my husband and I have tried about 20 things out of this book, and they have all been delicious--cocktails, appetizers, main dishes, side dishes, and desserts.

The best part about this book is the simplicity. Most of the recipes in this book don't have a ton of ingredients, and the ingredients it calls for are usually things I have on hand, or I just need to get a few easy (and inexpensive)items.

I loved finding out about "the secrets of the trade" and how food and design come together. I recommend this for cooks, photographers, and anyone interested in design, lighting, or presentation. It is also just plain fun to look at the great photograhy and read about why your Christmas dinner will never quite look like the one in the magazine.
